Five tips for starting public access defibrillation programs

“Setting up a successful public access defibrillator (PAD) program should be on the forefront of every fire and EMS agency’s agenda. The American Heart Association notes that for every minute a person is in a cardiac arrest, their survivability decreases by 10 percent. Having easy-to-use PADs that are quickly accessible by the public increases the probability of delivering life-saving defibrillation sooner.”

 A Systematic Approach
to CPR

The 2010 AHA Guidelines introduced several updates for treating patients in cardiac arrest. The Systematic Approach to CPR poster is a valuable training tool to reference when considering the new guidelines. The multi-sided poster offers information on the teamwork and tools required to address an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, and includes a step-by-step training scenario representing a “pit stop” approach to CPR.
