New FEMA program aims to educate public to save lives

By EMS1 Staff

WASHINGTON — A new web-based training program is aiming to educate the public about the important role they play in providing care prior to the arrival of EMS.

"You are the help until help arrives," includes three training tools: an interactive video that puts viewers in control of lifesaving decisions, a 25-minute video tutorial explaining steps people should take helping someone with life-threatening injuries and curriculum for a hands-on instructor-led course.

Students will learn how to stop the bleeding, position the injured and provide comfort to injured patients.

An informational video about the training program can be watched below.
