Off-duty medic honored for saving soccer player's life

PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland paramedic helped save a man's life on the soccer field.

Dale Montgomery was off the clock and playing in a local soccer game in October 2012. His team had just finished the first half of a game when he heard someone shout out that a player on another field was having a heart attack.

Montgomery, an American Medical Response paramedic, ran to the victim and immediately began CPR. He then led resuscitation efforts and used an automatic external defibrillator on the man. After one shock, the patient began breathing and regained consciousness.
