White House and DHS launch 'Stop the Bleed' campaign
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration launched the "Stop the Bleed" campaign to provide bystanders of emergency situations with the tools and knowledge to stop life-threatening bleeding.
Working with the private sector and nonprofit organizations, the "Stop the Bleed" campaign wants to put knowledge gained by emergency responders and military personnel into the hands of the public to help save lives.
When the bleeding is severe, a person can die before the responders arrive at the scene. If a layperson knows the steps to take to help stop the bleeding, that person can survive.
The campaign aims to raise public awareness about how to stop severe bleeding and also expand personal and public access to bleeding control kits.
