Double amputee defies odds, becomes paramedic

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Paramedic Noah Filer has beat insurmountable odds and exceeded expectations.

Several years ago, Filer, who was in the middle of paramedic school, was placed in a medically induced coma for months after a motorcycle crash claimed his left arm and leg, according to SwedishAmerican’s Facebook page. When he woke up, he got the devastating news.

However, Filer left the hospital with prosthetics and began to piece his life back together. Not only did he marry and start a family, but he returned to paramedic school and later became a licensed paramedic.

Filer is the only double amputee in the state to become a paramedic.
