Teen cardiac arrest survivor thanks responders with Facebook video

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A 15-year-old who survived cardiac arrest thanked the emergency responders who assisted him through a video that has been viewed tens of thousands of times on Facebook.

Charlie Piper suffered cardiac arrest while at home last Thursday. His sister found him gasping for breath and called 911, WMTW reported.

EMS, fire and police officials arrived at the residence, performed CPR and used a defibrillator to resuscitate Charlie. They then transported him to Maine Medical Center, where he is recovering and waiting to undergo heart surgery on Thursday.

Charlie was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White after the incident. His family wasn’t aware of the heart condition.

Charlie decided to thank all the responders who assisted him and helped save his life by posting a thank-you video on Facebook.

"I really appreciated what they did. I really thought it was something I could do to honor them," he said.
